POSITION SUMMARY: TheRegistered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who coordinates andimplements patient care specific to the age of the patientpopulation served on the assigned units. He/she ensures thatquality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner,consistent with the unit's standards of care. He/she demonstratesperformance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals ofthe unit and organization. Demonstrates quality and effectivenessin work habits and clinical practice. Treats staff, physicians,patients and families with consideration and respect.

Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of anaccredited program for Registered Nursing.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:Current New Mexico RN license or current Compactstate license. BLS Certification required or within 2 weeks of hiredate. All other required certifications must be obtained within 6months of hire date. If nurse has the required certifications attime of hire, they must maintain the certifications and will nothave a grace period to renew. (See RequiredDepartment Certification List detailed on the last page of thisdocument.)

  • Current knowledge and skills appropriate toage/type of patient population served
  • Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients' rights in the delivery ofcare
  • Communicates in a clear concise mannerappropriate to the developmental age of patient.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • Bloodbornepathogen C (OR, PACU, L& D);
  • Bloodbornepathogen B (otherPatient Care areas). Exposure to infectious diseases andx-rays.

Works in a clean, welllighted, ventilated smoke-free environment. Subject to stressfulprofessional relationships. Working hours are varied, withflexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations,prolonged, extensive or considerable standing and walking. Requiresheavy physical effort to position, push and/or transfer patients orequipment and supplies. Requires considerable reaching, stooping,bending, kneeling and crouching. Ability to judge distance andspace relationships, see peripherally, distinguish and identifydifferent colors. Hearing and visual acuity within normal orcorrectable limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordinationrequired.
